Location: 430 km west of Auckland Islands
Focal depth: 10 km
Richter magnitude: 7.3
A large earthquake south of New Zealand, which was
felt over a large part of the lower South Island. This is
an updated location based on international readings. The
local Richter magnitude is low, the best international estimate
being 8.1.
